mindfulnessmovement Letting go of the past can prove difficult for a lot of us. Happy memories take us back to more pleasant times in our lives, and unhappy memories can be filled with unresolved problems. There is essentially wrong with recalling the past in our minds. Rather it’s us being incapable of letting go of our attachment to it that keeps us from being content and peaceful in the present.

This doesn’t mean that we should try to erase our past. It only means that we need to stop holding on to it, if we want to be liberated from our pain. We’ll still be able to relive pleasant memories. In fact, we’ll enjoy them even more when we beat  the need to recreate them. We’ll also learn to come to terms with unpleasant memories, because we’ll be able to accept them without expecting amends from situations or people who have hurt us.

Once overcome, we learn to treat every experience, event or occurrence in our life independently rather than using our past experiences to form our views of them.

If somebody you spend a lot of time around is mentally healthy, there’s a good likelihood that being around them will be good for your mental health too. It doesn’t matter who the individual is. 🤩 Happy Friday you bloody lovely lot!! I am especially grateful for this Friday, it’s been a looonngg week! Of course I’m not negating the benefits of putting in the work, but how often are we really working against the flow, making things harder than they need to be in a misguided belief that this is what leads to success?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Been thinking a lot lately about this: putting in the work, but letting go of attachment to result... which has an element of simply surrendering to whatever outcome. Motherhood for me has been a time where I have literally been FORCED to directly face the anxieties that have shaped my life. Some days, all I can do to cope is to tell myself to breathe. Hence, the name. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, the last thing that I want is for the name to scare people away (maybe my recent sleepless nights didn't make me the greatest brand marketer 😂)

What's important to know, is that I didn't ACTUALLY need motherhood as an excuse to face my fears; I could have done it long ago, but I was too scared.

We can experience two contrasting emotions at the same time, and being mindful of both is advantageous. “I am sad I cannot see my friends during quarantine” and “I am happy to spend time with my family”. “I am grateful for my job” and “I am overwhelmed by the amount of work I have”. “I am feeling a bit stir crazy” and “I don’t feel comfortable in certain public settings”. mindfulnessmovement oh the sacred pause
so powerful and yet so simple. 
it is the moments that we  p a u s e,  and breathe, before moving forward, before taking the next breath, the next action, that is key.  in those moments of  p a u s e,  we have allowed extra time, to sink a little deeper. taking a moment to  p a u s e  can be so beneficial when we are navigating through this life. allowing an extra few seconds to ask yourself, do I really want this? is this really serving me? is this really going to support the life that I want to create?  before my yin class we practise this, checking in with where we’re at, physically, emotionally energetically.  i ask these things at the start of my classes so everyone can assess where they are at, to practise a deeper, more honest connection to themselves.  its important in yin to do this because if we don’t and push too deep with the ego, or resist the postures entirely with the frustrations coming up,  then we’re not getting the full benefits of the pose or it could be damaging the body.  but, if we acknowledge that actually today maybe, you’re feeling like sh*te, so need to allow yourself to take it a little softer, a little gentler this is a good thing.  a friend recently took some time off work as things were becoming a bit much managing this ‘new normal’ what with work-family-Co-Vid life, and I congratulated them for recognising and accepting this was their state and taking the necessary action to rest into it. and the result? after a few days of holding the space, the mood lifted (as it always does) extra sleepins and less screen-time, fewer demands,  and they felt revived and ready to move forward. it is totally OK to need a few days off from time to time, it is totally ok to say that today isn’t your day. we ALL have them.  it is the same for me, when I am feeling overwhelmed or like my mind is taking over, I need to reset also. knowing that decisions made coming from a place of fear or anxiety or stress are not going to serve me, so I try to make time to slow down the breath and the body, slow my movements, calming the internal storm. 💛🌻 join me tonight 7pm CET live on IG for a slowly moving soothing yin practise 😁 #yinyoga

This is an extract from a poem called Gravity’s Law by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke. It was written over a century ago but it’s still as relevant today as it was then.

The ‘things’ he’s talking about belong to the earth – stones, blossoms, children – each knowing who and what they are and not entangling themselves in stories of needing to be anything other.
.
To me, the ‘things’ can also be those struggles we keep having in our daily lives. Things we fear, things we dislike, things we wish were different.
.
Are there things which keep you stuck? Could you ask yourself if there are stories you are telling yourself about these things and could you let go of them? Perhaps imagine they were happening to someone else, a good friend. How does that change your perspective? Could you fully accept how things are – trust your heaviness – so that you can then move into wise action?

Transitions and changes can be SO hard, especially without the structure and routine of school. ⠀
Children are INCREDIBLY resilient. As you make this transition into summertime, remember all the tools you have in your Mindfulness Toolbox! You can totally handle this. 💚💜💙⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Rest is a crucial component when working towards goals, either in our day to day lives or in physical practices such as yoga or an exercise routine.⁣
⁣
For the last several months, I’ve kept a consistent and structured yoga practice that tended more towards the vinyasa style, power yoga flow.⁣
⁣
What that means - working up a sweat, increasing my heart rate, and a lot of strength building.⁣
⁣
I felt dedicated to this practice because I could start to feel and see the benefits in my body. I was building muscles in my arms and core that I had never felt strength in before.⁣
⁣
It was easy to be dedicated to this practice, because I could see the physical transformation it created.⁣
⁣
But what about the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of my yoga practice?⁣
.⁣
.⁣
Yoga is not just about getting in a good workout - although it sure can challenge you physically.⁣
⁣
It is about moving in a way that is supportive to your body, on that given day and in that given moment.⁣
⁣
Last week I was sick and was definitely not up for doing anything physically intense. There were some days I was too tired and in pain to even make it onto my mat.⁣
⁣
And yet, I was feeling resistance to the rest that I was being called to take. I was nervous that I would lose the strength and length that I had worked months to gain.⁣
⁣
There was an anxiety that accompanied my body telling me ‘Please listen to me. You need to rest now.’⁣
⁣
I softened a little bit. I released the strict expectations I had of myself. I allowed myself more naps, days off work, and full stretches of time with nothing to do.⁣
⁣
As I surrendered into the rest, I (re-)realized that even in rest our bodies are working, healing, and regenerating.⁣
⁣
The rest is AS necessary as the progress, the strength, the giving.⁣
⁣
We must rest to fill up our own cup, so as to continue giving and building again at some point in the future.⁣

Basically *puts glasses leg onto lower lip to appear intellectual*👩🏼‍🏫 (is it called a leg?) it’s the idea that your thoughts become things and...*chucks glasses away* actually you’re better off googling it 😂.

I don’t fully believe in all of it, like I don’t believe that if I ask the universe for a million squid 💷 and truly believe it’s coming, I’ll wake up with the winning lottery numbers. I just think that if you’re in a positive frame of mind, you attract positive things into your life. And focusing on all the aspects of your life that you’re grateful for is just common sense.

I love the best.” 🎶Early morning walks and blue skies have been helping me get out of bed throughout lockdown. Morning walks in nature have helped a lot, It’s definitely the time of day I love the best. I look forward to hearing the birds sing, to kicking my shoes off and walking through the wild flowers, to sitting quietly and just being. For the first time in a long time I spent this weekend truly relaxing. ⁣ ⁣ Which was refreshing. Sometimes I struggle with feeling like my schedule is so full I have to "hurry up and relax so I can get to the next thing." And that seems a little backward. 🙃⁣ ⁣ ⁣I spend so much time wishing I had an opportunity to rest and indulge in some of my favorite hobbies. But heaven forbid I actually take the time to do so, and don't fill any gap in my schedule with more work or a fun fast-paced activity. I feel I need to create time to finish all these tasks I put above my own well being. There is always time to work on improving the world. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣But what there isn't always time for in my world is a night of fun with some friends, a lazy day with my hunny, and an afternoon of container gardening and coffee with my mom. These are the things that not only filled my cup this weekend - but made it overflow. 🥰⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣I haven't checked my email since Thursday morning and for about a day and a half this weekend I didn't even have my phone with me. Not gonna lie, that was hard. But after this break I’m feeling more motivated and inspired. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣So often I think we get the impression that one or two hours of self-care is sufficient. Or a couple nights of good sleep is an accomplishment. But the more I think about it the more I realize we aren't made to only have a few hours for ourselves. There is nothing wrong with taking a few days to care for your self. And there is nothing wrong with doing that more frequently than once every couple of months. It should be encouraged. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣The new moon was this weekend - it's a great time for setting intentions and goals. 🌙 My new intention is to stop telling myself a couple of hours of self-care a week is sufficient. ✨ Because it's not. So this next month I'll be killing the self-care game. While also killing my professional game. Because I have a feeling they go hand in hand. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣Who's feeling like they need to level up their self-care game?? DM me - let's be accountability pals! 🤪

balance is an ongoing process, not a final goal. if we intentionally practice balance, then we can be easier on ourselves when we feel off because we tried our best. ⠀

prioritization is important. if we accept that maybe not everything can be done, but succeed in prioritizing what’s most important to us, this can take the pressure off of feeling the need to “do it all.” ⠀
⠀
balance thrives with interaction. I like to relate this to yin + yang- yin cannot exist without yang and vice versa, because they are interdependent + mutually consuming. the people you love + trust are there to carry some of the weight; more when you need a break, and less when you’re feeling stronger + more resilient. this exchange of drawing from + giving energy to each other is its own form of balance. ⠀
⠀
one final thought- balance looks different for everyone + changes for each of us at any given moment. don’t forget to take a step back and give yourself credit for where you are today, you are doing your best. 🤍

mindfulnessmovement I’ve made a lot more time for meditation since this pandemic.  You’ve heard of all the benefits right? Anxiety reduction, more clarity, self awareness, and overall emotional benefits. It’s all true and science can help back it up. It’s personally helped me slow down in areas of my life where it was much needed.  Staying on that fast train was going to lead me to crash.  I had to be willing to carve out time to just sit.  You don’t even have to do the fancy breathing techniques you may have read about.  Just be with yourself, stop multi-tasking and focus on hearing your regular moving breath. Maybe you chose a few meaningful words for yourself to repeat or count your fingers.  It’s that silence for you and that action of pulling yourself back in when you get distracted that leads to mindfulness.  That’s where the magic happens.  Just taking 2 minutes a day to start has major benefits.  You’ll start to experience life differently and maybe see things you didn’t notice before.  You may even pause and breathe before yelling at the car that cut you off.  You’re creating space within you and maybe clearing out some old stuff inside that’s been occupying for too long.  Just try it.  You deserve 2 minutes a day and the freedom that follows.  Chose direction over distraction.
